“Above All Things, We Will Exert Our Utmost Effort to Bring an End to COVID-19”
Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Shincheonji Church of Jesus) provided the list of 212,324 congregants (who reside in Korea) to public health authorities on February 25th. The Korea Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) will send this list to local governments on the condition of confidentiality. (Shincheonji Church of Jesus provided a list of 33,582 members on the 25th. At the request of Gyeonggi province government officials, the list of Shincheonji members residing in the Gyeonggi province, those who attended service at the Gwacheon church location on February 16th, and those who visited the Daegu church location were included.)
Starting from the 26th, cities and provinces are conducting telephone surveys with the members of Shincheonji Church of Jesus, and those with symptoms are being tested for infection first. Shincheonji Church of Jesus plans to actively encourage even trainees to be tested for infection in order to prevent the spread of disease amongst the local community.
After Shincheonji Church of Jesus handed over the list of all Daegu church location members to public health authorities on February 20th, members’ personal information have been leaked, making Shincheonji members into targets of undue injustices, such as forced leave of absence from work, discrimination, insults, and coercive pressure to quit their jobs. Therefore, Shincheonji received confirmation from public health authorities that the list will be used only for quarantine purposes and to take preventative measures against the disease, and requested for each local government to do the same.
Shincheonji Church of Jesus said, “We are fully aware that all citizens are deeply concerned and anxious over COVID-19. As many confirmed cases are from Shincheonji Church of Jesus, we express our deep regret to our fellow citizens. Above all things, we will exert our utmost effort to bring an end to COVID-19 by cooperating closely with public health authorities.”
